Run disk cleanups and defragments. Keep it virus free. Occasionally air dust the interior of my desktop as dust has an annoying habit of collecting there.

Periodic backups to an external HDD, then cleaning of unnecessary files. Occasionally reinstall OS and files after doing something completely stupid.

That's what I did, something stupid by upgrading to buggy Windows 8.1. Went back to a more stable 8, and after few days later of installing software I'm finally back to normal.A§H»Stealth wrote:Periodic backups to an external HDD, then cleaning of unnecessary files. Re: Week 7
That's what I love about OSX. Time machine works beautifully for restorations of everything from one file to your whole system. Just pick a date/time you want to go back to and go.
I've had to completely reinstall my OS twice. Both times it took only an hour, although they were for different reasons. Once I deleted the OSX version of system32 without knowing it, so that saved me there. (don't judge me! I was uninstalling a university mandated antivirus at the same time, and a lot of the files were the same or similarly named...) The second time Microsoft screwed me over when the Office update got hung up. I was without a laptop for 2 days in class while I tried to figure out what went wrong, but as soon as I reinstalled, I was back to normal.
