Multiple Halo clients

Post by Anoobis »

With the introduction of the Halo 1.10 client I feared I would lose some of the add-ons I have acquired over the years; i.e. PC NameTags, HAC 2, etc...

Fortunately most of the add-ons were updated by their creators and work flawlessly with 1.10, however there is one that did not...PC NameTags. I wanted a way to be able to still run PC NameTags and, since I am not a programmer, I wouldn't have a clue how to modify the code to get it to work but I am very good with computers. So I figured a way to run multiple Halo clients and now you can too.

First, you must have the install files of Halo and your product key. I cannot help with your product key but if you don't have your Halo CD, or it is scratched beyond being read by your optical drive, then you can download the extracted ISO https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yylupam44k71 ... x9IJbiqO6a.

If you haven't already updated to 1.10 start here...
1. Create a new folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Your_Chosen_Name OR C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Your_Chosen_Name - I chose Halo1.09 but you can choose whatever you want
2. Copy contents of current Halo directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo OR C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo)
3. Paste copied contents into new folder
4. Uninstall Halo and delete the old directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo OR C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo)
5. Re-install Halo and update to 1.10 on the "default" directory only (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo OR C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo)
6. Create a shortcut to each version on your desktop
7. Name each shortcut appropriately to the version it represents
8. Start playing and have fun...

If you have already updated and would like to still accomplish this start here...
1. Uninstall Halo and delete this directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo OR C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo)
2. Re-install Halo and manually update to version 1.09 - patch can be found https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ga61ni0u9l0w7w/patch_109.exe
3. Install and configure all of your add-ons you want
4.Go to Step #1 above and begin

You can do this for your CE install, if you have CE installed. Just change the directories above to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition OR C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition depending on if you have a 32 or 64 bit operating system. The link for the 1.09 CE patch is https://www.dropbox.com/s/hbmnh9rw0ck5v ... _ce109.exe.

Remember...your 1.09 version can only see the 1.09 lobby (yeah the old lobby is still there...what gives GameSpy?) and 1.10 can only see the 1.10 lobby! Good Luck!!!
Thanks,
