For awhile now, I've had a few OS bugs here and there. They've never been anything major, just an inconveniance; however my PC has been recently experiencing terrible lag. Programs will freeze up, processes will stop working. Worst case scenario, I can't move my mouse or even type.

My CPU Usage stays at around 20% and the RAM Usage 40%. There isn't anything untoward there. I'm buggered, the only thing I can attribute it to is that my laptop gets quite warm after hours (10+) of usage; but that's just web browsing, so nothing demanding.

I'm backing up my data on an external hard-drive in-case the laptop goes tits up.

OS: Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium.
Laptop Basic Specs: AMD A6-3420M APU with Raedon(tm) HD Graphics 1.50Ghz & 4.00GB RAM w/ 3.47GB usable.

Any idea what may be causing the OS lag?

E: The lag comes and goes.

That heat might the problem.
I don't know how much you know about comps , so
some things I say might be obvious....but I'll say them anyway.

First of all, make sure the vents of the laptop aren't blocked!
So don't put it onto a soft surface ,like a pillow or other bedding where
the laptop mighr sink into a bit.
Heat can build up quick, even when only "light" stuff
is running, as most laptop's don't have a ventilator.

NYou could check if the vents are free of dust .

Finally you could check if the inside is free of dust.
WARNING:
If you don't have experience opening
up your comp , you might want to ask someone who has.
The interiour parts of a comp are easaly damaged....with catastrophic reasults.!!!!!!!!!
So....DON'T OPEN IT IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW, a simple static schock like from
your sweater might cause heavy damage.....up to ruining it).

Cheers Vox. The vents are clear, I may have a look inside tomorrow.

Ok...be very carefull with that, things can easally go wrong
inside.
Again, if you don't have experience with that, find
someone who does and have him/ her to show yoy how.
( I lost two motherboards that way....damn static.....or should

always ground yourself before touching anything inside on desktop chasis works not sure on laptop i assume though. also and tools need to be discharged the same way (chasis). And of course do not wear wool socks walk around on the carpet while wearing a polar fleece pullover while working LOL in other words a work area that will not allow static to build up. hope you get it figured out could be many things that cause it. Any recent changes that you have done?

check your antivirus and firewall progs, some go wonkers from time to time and start eating up cpu resources they shouldn't.

Was happening to me quite some time ago. Disappeared after I ran a malwarebytes and it got rid of the viruses. Run a scan and see what's going on.

The computer screen freezing up.. Hmm.. Happened to me yesterday, everything just froze while I was in TS. I could still hear everyone's voices though so it wasn't a problem with the computer itself, probably the monitor/screen.

Try checking the wires in the laptop, they can be a bit loose over time.

Not a software issue. In-fact, it seems like my HDD is getting worse. That is the main thought from people, going to check it out with a piece of software someone showed me.

Get a program that shows you the S.M.A.R.T data of your hdd.
