For those of you that don't know, I live on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. On the Peninsula are the ruins of Fort Nepean. This Fort was built to protect Victoria in the 1800s and was functional throughout both World Wars. In both World Wars, Fort Nepean fired the first shot of an Allied Army.

For example, in World War 1, a German vessel was in Port Philip Bay. It began retreating only minutes after war had been declared, a cannon from Fort Nepean forced the vessel to return to port and all onboard were arrested.

Yes Mandalor the Australians fought in both World War I and II. They have always been valuable allies to us. There is a lot of history there. One example was the largest POW escape during the war. In the Second World War Australia held a large POW camp for the Japanese and at one point there was a jail break. Of course this was in the middle of Australia's outback so the escapees didn't have much hope of getting anywhere, but many people still died. The incident was called the Cowra breakout. Another fun fact, I attend the same school that Australia's most famous criminal did attend, Mark 'Chopper' Read. He passed away recently.
