If you have some random junk in your inventory, simply turn it into a gem. When you're viewing your steam inventory, click on the item and there should be an option that states to turn the item into gems. You might want to convert an item that you could care less for. When you convert the item into a gem, you get this badge:

Gem Maker
100xp!!!!!!
