I had this asked on another forum and found the responses interesting in the way the meaning is perceived this 'day and age'. It seems to have taken on a multitude of meanings over the years from the original

1. One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument
Source: Urban Dictionary

2. Being a pr!ck on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent by-stander, because it's the internet and, hey, you can.

What do you classify as a troll or trolling?

I would agree more with definition 1. True trolls employ sarcasm as their primary weapon.

I would say more towards the #1 as well, although it doesn't have to be cynical or saracastic or just trying to piss someone off to be trolling, as with anything else everyone has different feelings towards the same thing. So what might be considered trolling to one person might not be considered trolling by another person. For example: let's say this guy named cookez spam pokes a guy named Bier in TS3 for fun and doesn't see it as trolling, Bier might blow it off and be like, "oh he's just messing around, no harm done." By Bier's perspective he doesn't consider it trolling he just considers it good fun. But let's say a guy named Waffles saw that and was like, "WHOAH NOW, THAT'S A TROLL." So really it all falls on who's doing the "trolling" and whoever he/she is trolling considers it trolling themselves.

The first definition seems to formal for most informal people on the internet >.> I'd go with the second definition.

A troll just trolls without realizing the repercussions his actions have and not caring about them.

I'm surprised the first reply wasn't along the same lines.
