Halo 5 - My first impressions

I've been playing since 11 CST last night (not straight obviously) and here are my thoughts:

Multiplayer is a blast! Fresh new take on the halo MP experience with very sweet new gamemodes, for example, warzone, where you fight both Prometheans and other players.

Campaign is fun but requires a bit of halo story background, the books do a good job of this. I still feel this campaign isn't the best Halo campaign I've ever played, but I can't form a complete opinion of it until I beat it. (I'm on mission 3 legendary)

I can't speak for controls because I play with a kb+m, but they seem similar to halo 4 when I was setting everything up.

The new gunplay mechanics are different with ADS mechanics but still feel mostly Halo and definitely don't rely on aiming in order to deal the most damage, it's all situational.

I'm excited to see how this game ages and how the campaign ends, hopefully I won't be disappointed.

Oh, and 60 FPS throughout! The textures look like shit, but it's worth it for the frame rate in my opinion. Now if only it would release on pc...

Glad you're enjoying the game rUnRiÕt. Hopefully the campaign story will get stronger and end with a positive experience.

Multiplayer is great and really intuitive. I'm certainly going to be playing a lot of it, the new modes and the amount of unlocks are plenty and fun.

The campaign though. It was good... I guess? I feel.. confused, surprised, and unsatisfied all at the same time.. Disappointed that you can only play as Masterchief for only 3/15 missions. And the missions are stupidly short too.

Been playing for a week, beat the campaign in less than 4 hours on normal. Was talking to some other people about what I thought, here it is.

The positives:

Gun play is excellent. 343 has mastered this area, the guns are varied, fun to use, etc.

The graphics are great, as expected, the game is a joy to look at.

Music is top notch as per all Halo games, although I believe slightly more so. Kazuma (or whatever his name is) really captured the older halos and added his own personal touch.

Campaign.. is alright? ~ish . From a story level it is okay I guess, but this will also go into the negatives section.

Warzone is new and interesting. REQ packs are fun to open.

Arena is highly competitive, I like FFA and Breakout

Spartan abilities add a new level of complexity to the game that feels great once you get used to it.

-----------

Negatives:

What the fk happened with the campaign. They added in this bland agent locke character for 12/15 missions. He has no real motives other than "find chief." The chief missions are literally the only levels interesting to play from a story perspective. And then there is the problem that all character lines are plot driven. There is absolutely no character development, a huge contrast to the very well done development in Halo 4. The pacing is horrendous, the cut-scenes are too short, the ending is "what even." There is no sense of accomplishment, it is like they primed it for Halo 6 and now we have to pay another 60 dollars. I mostly blame this on Brian Reed, who also did Spartan Ops, but perhaps it was partly the publisher's fault for cutting out a bunch of things and turning this trilogy as they used to call into a saga. I'm just gonna go ahead and pretend Halo 5's campaign didn't exist and that it skipped straight to the end.

Your AI team-mates in campaign are retarded and the boss fight repeats 3 times with the same guy but more.

Textures become clearly worse roughly 4 meters away from you in campaign on the ground and fights in the distance are in 30 fps.

CAMPAIGN IS ALSO REALLY ULTRA SHORT.

Multiplayer maps suck. Multiplayer map variety is sooooooooo bad. Maps have no real textures and are not interesting and CONSTANTLY REPEAT. Really, they might as well be called 'UNSC metal themed map number 1, 2, 3, etc' and 'Covenant purple themed map number 1, 2, 3, etc." Some of the maps look like they were thrown together by a toddler in forge. They have absolutely no flow and horrendous spawns and 343 better get their shit together and release better maps. I have played the map orion so much now that if I see it one more time I will smash my xbox into pieces, easily the worst map in all of halo.

Warzone is also repetitive. Same bosses, same map repeating problems, etc.

I don't know how to explain this part. Killing people just doesn't seem rewarding and getting killed has led to more rage filled games than in the past for me. It just seems cheap sometimes.

The controller acceleration issue is horrendous, but 343 is supposedly fixing it.

-----------

Things to look forward to:

New weapons being added: old school rocket launcher and halo CE magnum

New maps that are more open and varied, there was a blood gulch remake I saw

Forge mode which will supposedly be the best forge

-----------

If I had to rate the game, I would need to rate campaign and multiplayer differently.

Multiplayer: 8/10 until they fix repetitiveness and controller acceleration issue.

Campaign: I really did not like it, but it added to the story, so maybe 5/10. Play through it on easy to get plot points real fast, just look around the game at how good everything looks (ignore enemies in the distance and the ground ahead of you0 and listen to spartan chatter. Watch the legendary ending on youtube or something, its not worth it to play the game on legendary.
