I'm just curious if it is actually better than Windows 7. I'm trying to buy a new computer and most of them seem to be fitted out with Windows 8.1 while other just have regular 8.
Is it a wise choice to buy 8.1? Is 8.1 better than 8.0?

8.1 is better i.m.o., but I would try and wait for win10.
It wil be more desk/laptop based, where 8 was intended more
for tablets and stuff with touchscreens (more phone like),8.1 was developed
to make it more suitable for lap/desktop after lots of
users complained about the layout and accesability.
See you in the Haloverse, but hey, don't run, you'll just die tired!!
For sure 8.1 is better than 8. I also prefer 8.1 to 7.
I have one laptop that i use 7 on, and another with 8.1. That one is much more stable than Windows 7 in some ways, mostly with bluetooth issues.

Wait. Windows 10 will be a free upgrade this summer for windows 7 and 8 users alike, no reason to blow money now when a new OS is coming out later. By the way, I've used the technical preview thoroughly and it is VERY nice.

I looked into the technical preview also, but highly disappointed in the lack of any substantial change in the Start Menu issue. I found what they did to be poorly designed and not user friendly. Hoping that is not the finished concept, but the opening idea of what they want to do with it. If it is the finished idea then I suppose that's a main reason its going to be free. There isn't going to be any radical change anyway.
Hopefully Cortana will be more useful than in its present form also.

:0 Cortana. I forgot about a reading somewhere stating she'd be added or something.

Yes, but in the technical preview very glitchy and hardly useful. That should change though.

I've just bought a computer today with 8.1 >.> Yes I know I've probably let down some of you. I've been convinced though that when 10 comes out, there will be all sorts of issues and it's expected that 6 months after it's release, there will probably be fixes for it. To avoid this long wait, I just figured I'd get a new computer. I'm in dire need of one (sort of).
