In-Game Recording
What does everyone use for ingame recording? Currently I use ezvid, but it stops for me after 45mins of capturing. I want something to record with in HD for as long as I want it too (at least 2hrs).
Xfire capture...any good too?
Any ideas (priority to the free capture software first)?

Re: In-Game Recording
I tend to use xfire. However, it's not the best quality and the unprocessed files are proprietary.
If you're looking for free, quality, video recording. I'd try Evolve. It records both .mov and .mkv.
As far as I know, it will record until your (spare?) drive is full.
I like evolve mainly because it keeps up with my game hours and I can use it to stream games. Actually, it's a lot like Xfire except you can't use it to join servers.
I've only got one friend there (Wizard)
If you get it, add me: jook99

Re: In-Game Recording
I use xfire but it's not the best. Not the best of graphics and the videos tend to lag at some points, lower fps, and a lot of times play the sound seconds before the scene, or seconds after a certain part of a video. It lapses.

Re: In-Game Recording
NEVER, EVER, have a software where recording as a .mkv file format is a good thing....mkv & flv are both super compressed formats. MOV, MP4, MTS, AVI, WMV (though I like to avoid these too), are all suitable formats that I like recording in as it's easy for my editing software to recognize it. I don't think my industry-standard (Avid Media Composer) will even read flv files....so bad D:

Matroska is a container format, not a codec; codecs are where you loose quality with compression...A§H»Greed wrote:NEVER, EVER, have a software where recording as a .mkv file format is a good thing....mkv & flv are both super compressed formats. Hence compressor-decompressor. Video compression and encapsulation are independent. You can have lossless data stored in matroska.

Re: In-Game Recording
X-fire is the devil, I hate it so much
Fraps is good, Dxtory is better.
if you have a Nvidia based card in the 600 series or better (Bier helped me figure this part out) then you can use Nvidia shadowplay, I can neither recommend or discourage use of Shadowplay since I have never used it.
Msi afterburner works too, but I've never actually done more than fiddle with the interface for that. My best recommendation of the above listed would be Dxtory, try and catch me in TS3 or add me on steam (stilichos) and I will help you figure out Dxtory.
Dxtory lets you add more codec's... So if you are REALLY intent on using the X-fire recording software, you can use it through Dxtory,
it lets you set framerat limits for you and the recording
you can limit it to a certain number of cores on your CPU, still haven't figured what works best for that.
I must advise that recording in 1080P will take up all of your hard-drive much faster than 720P and isn't really that big in a jump of quality.

I use Fraps.
